Just when we all thought the game that has been in development forever had died, it turns out, we were wrong. Oh wur? My Bur. Yes, I was under the impression that the Duke Nukem developer studio had been confirmed to be closing but I guess I jumped the gun and now have egg on my face. 3D Realms is in fact, not closing. However, it is now smaller and in the middle of a legal battle with angry Duke Nukem Forever publishers Take-Two (which really, after a game is in development for 10 years, they deserve to be mad). Details of the shit storm available after the break.
Duke Nukem Forever… and Ever… and Ever
May 18, 2009 by ScruffyUncharted 2: Among Thieves Vid Impressions
May 17, 2009 by Scruffy
If you ask most PlayStation 3 owners what their most anticipated game of the year is they’ll say Uncharted 2: Among Thieves. And really, why wouldn’t they? Even by today’s standards Uncharted: Drake Fortune still stands up as one of the best games PS3 exclusives, and that’s by no way a shot against Metal Gear Solid 4 or Resistance. Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune was just an amazing game, sure, it had it’s flaws, but every game does. So it’s no surprise that Naughty Dog is back with the second game in the series. Well, this week several minutes of actual Uncharted 2 gameplay footage hit the internet. If you haven’t seen it click here and continue on for my impressions.
The Real Word May 16, 2009
May 16, 2009 by Scruffy
Alright, after two weeks off I have some new questions and so I’m back with a much delayed edition of the Real Word. So, as always, I’m going to start off with my weekly blurb. This week I’m going to focus on the closing of 3D Realms and the possible cancellation of the long, long, long awaited Duke Nukem Forever. After 10 long years the game that was suppose to be the best first person shooter ever has possibly met it’s end. With the closure of 3D Realms there’s now a whole convoluted legal clusterf*ck between 3D Realms and Take-Two. I’m not entirely sure what’s what but it breaks down like this, the game is most likely cancelled. There are really two stories here. The first is that another studio has fallen to the recession. Honestly, I’m not surprised this studio didn’t close it’s doors a long time ago, they haven’t done much over the last ten years. And the second story is that the game that never came out will now never come out. Duke Nukem Forever is the game that people wanted to play for no apparent reason. Back in a time when the Brady Bunch were considered edgy (was there ever a time?) Duke Nukem was like GTA. But years later, the franchise is all but dead in the water and nobody cares anymore. The only time Duke Nukem is mentioned is in jokes, so to Duke Nukem I wish a big “Rest In Piece… and stay dead.” Now then, time for some questions.
Sony Kicks XBots in the Ass
May 10, 2009 by Scruffy
At this point the online games community has degraded into one massive, four way flame war. Xbox vs. PlayStation vs. Nintendo vs. PC. That’s all there is, everything is designed to anger these morons for hits. Even huge sites such as IGN have admitted to just writing flame bait articles. But once in a while, a bit of news comes along that just sends the fanboys (and the writers smart enough to piss them off) crazy. And last week, another bit of this type of news hit…
Konami Gives, Pulls plug on Six Days in Fallujah
May 3, 2009 by Scruffy
Fallujah, the name of a city in the country of Iraq. Some of the most deadliest battles of the USA’s crusaded for oil (supposedly) in Iraq have taken place in this very city. And because of this it is obvious that Fallujah is a perfect place for a first person shooter to be made. And so saw the beginning of Six Days in Fallujah, the game set in and around the actual events of the battles. It’s really no surprise that the game has been met with incredible amounts of resistance and controversy since it’s announcement in the USA. And this controversy may have resulted in the cancellation of this game. Read on for more details. Read the rest of this entry »
Nintendo finally gives online a push
May 1, 2009 by playstationgameruk
Now lets not beat around the bush, while the Wii is a great console for playing when you have mates around and it does have some fun titles in the form of Madworld and LOZ:TP, it’s online department is lacking compared with the competition and as a result, the amount of wii owners online is fairly small considering the consoles install base.
Canada is full of pirates!
April 30, 2009 by Scruffy
Yes, if you’ve been thinking of crossing the pond to come visit us in Canada (yes, I am a Canadian) you might want to hold off. Apparently, my country is just crawling with pirates, and not the good kind either. No, nobody’s boat is going to get hijacked here, the only people who have to fear are the billionaires who run the various media companies. Or so they think, at least. For the first time ever, in the history of anything, Canada has been placed on the Piracy Watch List (which I didn’t even know existed) by the United States Trade Representative. More info after the break.
BlazBlue Limited Edition Announced
April 29, 2009 by Scruffy
E3 is getting closer and closer so there is more and more stuff being announced everyday and today, oh, today is no exception. Are you a big fan of 2D fighters? Do you think Street Fighter IV was the best game released so far this year? Then you’re going to be very interested in what I’m about to say. The game is called BlazBlue, you’ve probably heard of it. It’s a 2D fighter being developed by Arc System Works, developers of the Guilty Gear franchise, and published by Aksys Games (in the US). The game is set to be released June 30th in North America (no word on a EU release date, sorry guys) and today a limited edition version was announced. Continue after the break for the contents of the limited edition.
Your Cries Have Been Answered: Marvel vs. Capcom 2 Announced
April 29, 2009 by Scruffy
Sony has been working it’s ass off of late to build hype for the PS3. From the huge announcement yesterday to the announcement of the Joker as a playable character in Batman: Arkham Asylum exclusively on the PS3 version. They’ve been working to make the PS3 your system of choice, but that’s enough of the Sony promoting (I’m hoping if I talk up the system enough they’ll fix my PS3 faster) so you’ll just have to wait to find out what little exclusive Sony snagged this time around. When you think of poorly kept secrets and fan demands what comes to mind? A PSN/XBLA release of Marvel vs. Capcom 2 of course, and that’s just what gamers got yesterday. More information after the break.
inFamous and Uncharted 2: Among Thieves Just Got A Little More Awesome
April 27, 2009 by Scruffy
Chances are that if you own a PS3 then you’re already looking forward to May 26th because May 26th (0r May 29th in Europe) is the launch date for Sucker Punch Interactive’s inFamous. Well guess what y’all, Sony just sweetened that pot. More on that after the break. Also, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves has to be one of the most anticipated PS3 games since Metal Gear Solid 4 last year, if not more so. And so it just warms my heart to announce that the PS3 exclusive third-person shooter, will be getting a huge addition to the first game. What is this addition? Find out after the break.
