Your Cries Have Been Answered: Marvel vs. Capcom 2 Announced

3480648165_3dcb90b1faSony has been working it’s ass off of late to build hype for the PS3. From the huge announcement yesterday to the announcement of the Joker as a playable character in Batman: Arkham Asylum exclusively on the PS3 version. They’ve been working to make the PS3 your system of choice, but that’s enough of the Sony promoting (I’m hoping if I talk up the system enough they’ll fix my PS3 faster) so you’ll just have to wait to find out what little exclusive Sony snagged this time around. When you think of poorly kept secrets and fan demands what comes to mind? A PSN/XBLA release of Marvel vs. Capcom 2 of course, and that’s just what gamers got yesterday. More information after the break.

After all kinds of leaks and hints over the past year it was finally announced yesterday that the fan favorite 2D fighting game, Marvel vs. Capcom 2 would be seeing a release on the PlayStation Network Store and Xbox Live Arcade. Set to be released sometime this summer the cult hit is getting some upgrades over the old version, the most notable of which would have to be online multiplayer. The game will be running on the same code as Street Fighter 2 Turbo HD Remix so it’ll feature many of the same features with only the tournament mode missing.

Also, the game will be getting a considerable graphics update with much of it refined and refitted to fit widescreen tv’s. Unfortunately, due to the original 2D sprites being used the characters can look a little pixilated in HD, however there are filters that can be used to smooth out the edges. Those are the two primary updates, other than that the game is the same as it was back in the old days.

Now then, I was teasing some PSN exclusive content at the beginning of the article so lets get to that. This Thursday, April 30th, the PSN will be getting an exclusive demo. The demo will feature two player local gameplay, and have seven selectable environments. The demo will feature six playable characters: Ryu, Chun-Li and Strider on the Capcom side and Spider Man, Iron Man and Wolverine on the Marvel side. It will run in 1080p and feature either widescreen or 4:3 aspect ratios.

The demo will be landing on PlayStation Network exclusively on April 30th and the game itself will be landing on PSN and XBLA this summer for $14.99 or whatever amount of Microsoft points that transfers into.
